Selecting the right winow film for your home can be somewhat challenging. Especially when receiving conflicting information. The most important thing to remember is to stay focused on the main reason you are considering window film.

• Nano-Ceramic films are all the buzz. These unique films offer good heat and UV reduction without making the glass dark. This allows for the highest amount of natural light. However, if you have a bright light or glare issue, these may not be the right product.
• Natural or Neutral films provide a variety of shades and performance. Depending on your specific need these films offer a variety of benefits. These films often have a reflective (shiny) look from the outside. At the same time, many of the darker films will be reflective from the inside at night, making your windows mirrors. Clear View Anti-Graffiti Film Protects Downtown Business

Recently a downtown business had their windows etched with acid. This is known as "tagging". After spending $350 to have one window replaced they decided to potect all of their windows with Clear View anti-graffiti films. Sun Gard Optivision on Castle Pines Home

Experience Matters

Today I visited with a car dealership in Golden. They had 5 large windows that had a problem with intense glare and scorching heat. Facing both south and east, there was just no escape for hours.

I suggested the 3M Night Vision 25 & 15 and Sun Gard Optivision 25 & 15. These would offer great benefits while still allowing for clear visibilty both day and night. As we discussed the products another gentleman approached and commented that he had already contracted with someone to tint the windows. As it turns out, he had contracted with the company that tints car windows for them. The plan was to install automotive window film on these 55" x 82" windows. The problem with this is simple. Dark, non-reflective window films will absorb an extreme amount of heat into the glass. This creates a risk of "thermal shock fracture". Simply put, the glass will break.

Once management understood the risks they decided to cancel the order placed with the auto tint .
