Winter Sun Can Do Damage Too

As they days get shorter we don't often think about sun damage in our homes. After all, it's not the hot summer sun. But, the fact is with the sun now lower to the horizon it actually travels further in to your home. Reaching furnishings not normally effected in the summer months. Clear View offers a number of light, UV rejecting window films that will block UV by 99%. By blocking the UV rays you will reduce the level of fading and sun damage to your flooring and furnishings.

Some films will continue to allow for a nice level of solar heat gain in the winter while some are designed specifically to reduce the heat entering your windows.

Oops....it can happen.

This morning I received a call from a former customer. Seems she managed to get some fingernail polish on her tinted kitchen window. In trying to get it off, she used a coarse green scrub pad. Unfortuantely, this scratched her window tinting. She was quick to point out that she had cleaned her windows on a number of occasions without damage. I explained to her that scrub pads are often color coded by their texture. Green is one of the most abrasive.
It just so happened we were going to be in her area today, so I told her we would stop by and take care of her. When we stopped in we found that the damaged window was a small window over the kitchen sink. We were able to remove the damaged film and replace it in less than 30 minutes. She was thrilled!
When she asked how much she owed me, I told her... "Don't worry about it. Just refer me to your neighbors" I was told "we already have!" She insisted on paying anyway. We charged her half price and everybody was happy.

There are 2 morals to this story: Never use an green abrasive scrubber on window film and a little bit of customer service goes a long way! I can guarantee the next time she thinks of window tinting, she remembers Clear View.

Is it too cold to tint my windows?

We are often asked "is it too cold to install window film"? Unfortunately, this isn't a simple answer. Installing film on single pane glass when it is below freezing is certainly not recommended. Because the glass can get extremely cold, the water used to install the product can freeze, causing damage to the adhesive system. Dual pane glass is less risky of freezing, but caution should also be used on "snow days". Without the warmth of the sun, on cold days, once again the moisture could freeze. We try to avoid installing the film on days that are snowing. We want to provide the best installation possible. http://www.clearmountainview.com/ http://www.tintcolorado.com/

What Does the Warranty Cover?

Window film warranties can vary from one manufacturer to another. Most quality window films come with a limited lifetime warranty for homes and a 10 year warranty on commercial properties. This warranty should cover both material and labor 100% through the warranty period. Beware of anything less.

An important part of the warranty is the "glass coverage". In Colorado it is extremely important to understand what the warranty covers. Most major manufacturer's offer a 2 to 5 year warranty covering your windows against thermal shock fracture. This means if your window cracks as a result of the window film, the manufacturer in many cases will pay up to $500 for the replacement of that window. Unfortunately, not all window films offer this coverage. Be a wise consumer and ask or read the warranty carefully. Get to know who the manufacturer is and where the product is made. My experience is that forgein manufacturer's are very difficult to work with shoulod you have a warranty claim. Be smart...buy American made products.

All of our window films are backed for material, labor and glass. Why settle for anything less? We are happy to provide full disclosure of our warranties and their limitations.

Saving Energy is Key

Commercial window tinting: This Broomfield technology company had an issue with the building's hvac system keeping the floors containing room after room of computer servers cool. Even with the a/c at it's highest level the areas were still too warm. We discovered a great amount of solar heat was coming from the windows that faced east and west. Clear View recommended Sun Gard's Silver 35 window film. This film provided the needed reduction in solar heat gain without drastically changing the look of the building.

The installation went smoothly and the building management was thrilled with the results. Temperatures were dramatically reduced and the a/c is now operating at a normal level.

The acquisition strengthens Saint-Gobain's position as a market leader in sustainable habitat. Solar Gard's three global production facilities and operations under development, sales and service centers worldwide and all employees currently working for the company are included in the transaction.
"The acquisition of Solar Gard is an important catalyst in the continued advancement of specialty films. Solar Gard's unparalleled expertise in materials science and entrepreneurial spirit, combined with Saint-Gobain's legacy of high performance products, will create new opportunities throughout the industry," said Loic Mahe, vice president Composites, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.

Saint-Gobain is the world leader in the habitat and construction markets, and its investment in Solar Gard acknowledges the important role window films play in sustainable habitat solutions. "This partnership legitimizes the window film solution and opens the doors to the enormous glass market and sustainable habitat industry. This is an incredible opportunity for the industry overall, and we consider this historical strategic acquisition by Saint-Gobain as the most influential partnership that the industry has ever seen."

True Vue 30 Cuts Glare

This Breckenridge homeowner wanted to cut the western sun's glare and still be able to enjoy their amazing view. They selected Solar Gard True Vue 30 for it's optical clarity and over all performance.

Notice how much better the view is through the top windows where the Solar Gard film was installed. The colors are more vivid and the glare is substantially reduced.

True Vue is available in 4 designer shades to suite almost any environment.

Visit our website for more information: www.clearmountainview.com

How do I care for my new window film?

A very common question is "how do I clean my new window film". Clear View only uses high quality material that has an abrasion resistant coating. While it is scratch "resistant" it is NOT scratch "proof". Sharp objects and abrasive scrub pads can damage the film.

Glass cleaner can be used sparingly, however we recommend a mild soap and water solution. Using a small spray bottle, fill with water and add a small amount of dish soap (Dawn, Ivory, etc...). We have found that soft micro-fiber cloths work the best. You'll find they clean the glass without leaving streaks. These cloths are available at grocery and discount stores. It is suggested that the glass be cleaned when cool for best results.

We do not recommend taping items to the window film. If this is necessary, 3M makes a Scotch Tape with a "Post-It" note type adhesive. Usually available at most office supply stores.

Fall Means Fewer Leaves on the Trees

We can feel the crispness of fall in the air already. It's been a long hot summer for many of us. Many a/c units struggling to keep up. And those of us without a/c thought we were going to melt! But, soon the temperatures will be dropping along with those leaves. This also exposes our windows to the direct sun light.

Did you know that more sun damage occurs in the winter than the summer? It's true! As the sun drops lower to the horizon, the light travels further into our homes. While we may not relate the winter sun to damage, it does continue without the hot temperatures.

Clear View offers a number of sun control window films that will not darken your windows and allow for a crystal clear view instead of hiding behind closed shades.

Solar Gard Tru View Films

Misleading Information?

I'm always a bit surprised when I see ads that make untrue claims. Just recently I saw an ad that stated windw film would reduce energy use by 60 to 70%. This is FAR from the truth. While window film may reduce solar heat gain by 60 to 70% this does not translate to the same ratio in energy savings. There are many other factors that determine your overall energy consumption besides your windows.

Another ad read "Stop fading by 100%" This is... how do I put this politely, stretching the truth a bit. Window film will "reduce" sun fading of flooring and furnishings, but it WILL NOT stop it. Visible light itself contributes to the fading. Therefore, unless the window film blocks 100% of the UV AND 100% of the light, it will not stop fading.

Our Solar Gard and Sun Gard window films block 99% of the sun's harmful rays. We are pleased to provide our complete product data for your inspection. Clear View won't make far fetched claims or give you misleading information. Just the necessary data for you to make an educated decision.

Optivision Solves Castle Rock Homeowner's Heat Issues

Today we installed Optivison window film by Sun Gard on the windows of a customer's home in Castle Rock. Facing "due west" his windows provided a wonderful view of the mountains but the glare and solar heat gain were just too much to live with. Unfortunately, they were forced to keep their blinds closed all day. We installed Optivison 15 to the west facing windows and patio doors. The homeowner was quite amazed at the immediate difference the window film made. The glare was gone and the room was cooler. He then asked us if we had enough material to do the south facing windows as well. Fortunately, we had planty with us and tinted the additional windows. Selecting the Right Window Film For Your Home

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times... "It doesn't matter how well it works if you don't like the way it looks" There are many window films that will perform well. However, they may not be the right choice for your home. Consider this, "do I want to reduce the sun light or would I prefer to keep as much light as possible, but without the harsh effects of the sun". Some films will reduce the amount of sun light coming through your windows, thus controlling the bright glare. While others are barely detectible and allow the sun to brighten the room. Selecting the right product for your comfort level is something only you can determine. Take your time examining the samples and view them in a variety of light settings. When in doubt, go lighter.
